BMW dent repair
in Bellevue & Seattle

The body line is the hard part, not the metal.

BMW builds a sharper crease down the side of a car than almost anyone, and that is what decides a BMW repair. A dent sitting in the flat of a door is routine. The same dent sitting on the character line is structure, and structure resists coming back. Many models also mix aluminum hoods and doors with steel fenders and quarters, so the panel matters more than the badge.

Short answer

BMW builds a sharper crease down the side of a car than almost anyone, and that is what decides a BMW repair. A dent sitting in the flat of a door is routine. The same dent sitting on the character line is structure, and structure resists coming back. Many models also mix aluminum hoods and doors with steel fenders and quarters, so the panel matters more than the badge.

What actually decides it

What moves the number on a BMW

01

The character line is the repair

A body line is a fold, and a fold is stiff. When a dent crosses one, the metal has to be brought back in more passes and with more patience, because the line has to end up as straight as it left the factory. That is the single biggest cost driver on a BMW.

02

Aluminum on some panels, steel on others

Plenty of 5 and 7 series cars, and the i models, carry aluminum hoods and doors over steel fenders and quarters. Aluminum has no spring-back and needs heat to become workable, so the same dent takes longer on one panel than the next one along.

03

The paint is thin and worth keeping

BMW finishes are not thick, which makes paintless repair more valuable rather than less. Nothing is filled, sanded or sprayed, so a paint depth gauge reads the same after as it did before.

04

Frameless doors and tight shuts

Coupes and the 4 series run frameless glass and tight panel gaps. A dent near an edge or a shut line is worked more carefully because the gap has to stay even.

Under the paint

The panel is only half the story

Two BMW dents of the same size can turn out to be two different jobs. What separates them is whatever sits underneath the metal at that exact point: a beam, a brace, a pillar, or nothing at all. Pull the edge across to strip the paint away.

A BMW with the panels taken off. Choose a number to read what that area means for the work.

Plenty of dents never land on a door, and the rule holds everywhere else on the car. Hoods, fenders, quarters and tailgates all have something underneath them: stiffeners, mounting brackets, wiring runs, and under a hood an entire inner frame. Where the metal is clear at the back, the work moves quickly. Where it sits on a reinforcement, the panel has to be approached from another angle, or something has to come off before a tool can get near it. That is the honest reason a quote follows the photo rather than the description.

Straight from the shopIt is also why a firm number down the phone would be a guess. Clear metal behind the damage makes for a short paintless repair. The same damage sitting on a beam or a pillar makes for a longer one. Send three photographs and we will tell you which of the two yours looks like, then the shop light settles it when the car arrives. How paintless dent repair works.

Absolutely great experience. The people are friendly and so helpful. They also did an amazing job. This dent showed up after someone hit my parked car and it had been bugging me for months but now you would not even be able to tell it was ever there. They were fast, accommodating and diligent.

The team provided a fast and reasonable quote for the work I wanted to get done. On the day of the appointment, they greeted me kindly and gave me a timeframe for the job. The final result turned out great and the small dent is now gone.

BMW owners ask

Questions about this make

Can a BMW dent be repaired without repainting?

Usually yes, as long as the finish is unbroken. Paintless repair reshapes the metal from behind the panel, so the original BMW paint stays on the car and there is no color match to worry about later.

Are BMW body lines harder to repair?

Yes, and it is the main thing that moves the price. A body line is a fold in the metal, which makes it stiff and reluctant to return. A dent in the flat of the same door is a far quicker repair than one sitting on the crease.

Is a BMW aluminum or steel?

It depends on the panel and the model. Many BMWs use aluminum hoods and doors with steel fenders and quarter panels, and the i models lean further into aluminum. Send the year and model with your photos and we will tell you which one you have.

Do you work on BMW i4, iX and i3?

Yes. They are aluminum-intensive, which means more time and heat rather than a different outcome. Paintless repair does not touch the battery, the drivetrain or any electronics.
